Added Features and Performance Improvements in Ideate BIMLink for Revit 2015 & 2014

Ideate, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of Ideate BIMLink 2015.1 and Ideate BIMLink 2014.4. These Ideate Software solutions bring an array of enhanced features (video) customers have requested and are designed to work with Autodesk Revit 2015 and 2014 respectively.

Free the Walls – Publishing Unconnected Wall Height Data with Ideate BIMLink

It’s hard to do a detailed analysis or cost estimate if you don’t know the height of the walls in your Autodesk Revit project. Ideate BIMLink exposes this information as well as other hard to access wall data such as phase, design option, orientation, and location data (XYZ). Many of our VDC customers take this data and move it forward, but of course it can also be pushed back into Revit for use in tags or schedules, if needed. This video shows the simple process of extracting all of the wall height data and then pushing it back into a project parameter so that it can be displayed in a schedule.



While the technique shown here relates to the unconnected wall height values, this same procedure is being used by many Ideate BIMLink customers to push other kinds of data into schedules or tags. Managing occupancy data is another very similar workflow that can also be used to save time and improve accuracy.

Transcending the BIM Hype: How to Make Sense and Dollars from Building Information Modeling

These days it's virtually impossible to make it through an architecture, engineering or construction event without hearing about Building Information Modeling (BIM). Most people tout substantial cost benefits from adopting BIM. Some are even sounding the warning that those who fail to jump aboard the BIM bandwagon will be quickly left in the dust.
BIM, which is often used interchangeably with Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), is the process of creating and managing a dynamic, three-dimensional, computer-generated model for the design, construction and operation of a building or project. The virtual model details the physical and functional characteristics of the building, such as the structure's geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and the quantities and properties of components. All of those characteristics can be analyzed, manipulated and corrected digitally before being used to facilitate the construction, fabrication, procurement and other activities necessary to convert the virtual model into the real thing.
