Make Your Revit Model Excel! Ideate BIMLink Debuts at #AU2010 Booth 609

Ideate, Inc. is pleased to announce Ideate BIMLink, an application for Autodesk Revit software.

Push. Pull. Power.
Ideate BIMLink creates a link between Revit and the industry standard data solution, Microsoft® Excel®. Pull Building Information Modeling (BIM) information from a Revit file into Excel and push Excel data back into Revit with equal ease. Get unprecedented access to BIM data!

What does this mean for you? Now you can:
  • Externalize data in your Revit model that used to be out of reach to non-Revit users
  • Reach data that Revit hides, including phase and design option data.
  • Update volumes of data following external and internal changes, while maintaining linked relationships
  • Clean up your templates by reviewing all parameter values (like Type Name and Type Mark) even while no instances exist
  • Push calculated data such as occupancy loads, duct and pipe lengths, or beam cut lengths, into your tags
  • Streamline your Quality Control processes by controlling family and project-based parameters
  • Instead of editing manually within Revit, use automated Excel capabilities to save time and prevent errors

Wow, we could go on, but if you’re ready to learn more…

And of course, for complete product features and additional materials including use-case videos, tutorials and ROI calculator, visit www.ideatebimlink.com

BIM Webcast: The Future of Building - 12.14.10

Building, as a process and an industry, has seen dramatic shifts in recent history, most notably with the explosion of technology and digital processes. Many new thought-provoking ideas and concepts have emerged on the future of building, and most of these concepts have technology at their core. Industry experts and trend watchers talk about better representation of buildings in the form of models and analysis, better understanding of existing realty through laser scanning and translation, better control of construction through digital fabrication and realignment of workflow through integrated project delivery. Yet none of these concepts could be successful without the people who power them.

Please join Phil Bernstein, FAIA, RIBA, LEED AP, VP of Industry Strategy and Relations at Autodesk, Inc. as he addresses some of the leading ideas around the future of building, and examines the relationship between humans and technology and how this relationship will shape the future of the architecture industry. Phil is co-author of “Building (in) the Future: Recasting Labor in Architecture,” which addresses how technology will continue to shape and alter the future of the building industry.

Improve Sustainability. Increase ROI.

Revit for BIM-Enabled Sustainable Design
Check out this online presentation which covers sustainable site selection, energy analysis and lighting analysis.

Buildings are complex, and optimizing a building’s performance requires incorporating many variables into design. To meet the needs of the industry for sustainable buildings, accurate information on the potential of the building’s performance is needed early in the design process. Autodesk® Revit® products help building design professionals by making sustainable design and building performance analysis simple and more accessible through BIM. BIM is an integrated process for exploring a project’s key physical and functional characteristics digitally.

View this 15 minute presentation to learn how you, as an architect, designer, MEP engineer, or building owner can use Autodesk® Revit® Architecture and Autodesk® Revit® MEP software for building information modeling (BIM), to improve your sustainable design process and increase your ROI.

Building Information Modeling for Government
Learn how to take advantage of large civil and military projects, positioning your firm to win GSA and USACE projects with BIM. Join Ideate and special guests for an overview of various BIM mandates and programs underway across several Federal Agencies, including a detailed debrief on the GSA BIM program and current BIM deliverable requirements. You’ll learn in detail the USACE (US Army Corps of Engineers) BIM requirements and how Architects, Engineers and Builders can deploy Autodesk BIM solutions on most of these projects. In addition to GSA and USACE, the discussion will also cover the VA, Air Force and some emerging commercial owner BIM requirements. Learn what BIM capabilities your firm will need to compete for these projects, along with examples from TLCD Architecture, a successful early adopter of BIM who is winning business with the VA.

The General Services Administration (GSA) and the United U.S. Army Corps Engineers (USACE) are planning long-term, system wide commitment to adoption of BIM. Not just theory, the agencies are on an aggressive path to increase efficiency, building omissions and sustainability and save on costs and taxpayers’ money. The GSA spends over $10 billion annually on new and renovation construction activity and owns more than 1,500 federal facilities totaling 177 million square feet and manages more than 184 million square feet of leased space. The USACE is the largest landowner and the largest building owner in the United States. With over $1 billion in projects this year, they were recently named “2010 Owner of the Year” by editors and contributors of California Construction Magazine.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Architects, Engineers, General Contractors and specialty subcontractors who are interested in competing for Federal Design and Construction projects, especially US Army Corps of Engineers, GSA Public Building Service and VA. Firm principals, business development personnel, project managers as well as BIM and VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Managers will find the information worthwhile.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Guy Messick, AIA, Architect, Director of Design Technology at TLCD Architecture is trained in fine arts, design and woodworking. Guy finds architecture as the profession best able to unite these disciplines. With his strengths in both design and technology, Guy has blazed a trail at TLCD to propel the firm into a leadership position in utilization of BIM. This methodology allows Guy to be more responsive to client requirements, from programming and design as well as extraordinary efficiency in construction. Guy balances work as a project architect with education of the firm and AEC community at large in BIM technology, as a way to elevate its use in the industry. Guy is a licensed architect in California.

John Sullivan is a Business Development Manager for Federal Government Clients at Autodesk, Inc. John has been with Autodesk for 13 years and has been responsible for developing strategic sales and consulting solutions for city, county, federal and commercial clients. John is currently focused on the application of BIM technologies for Federal Government programs through a project based approach to these implementations.

San Francisco Revit User Group - Small Firm Panel - 11.10.10

Revit – Small Firm Panel
Moving to a BIM solution, such as Revit, is a daunting task. Some smaller firms have felt that the hurdles are just too large for a small or medium size firm. This month’s Revit User Group will be a panel discussion with small and medium sized firms that are making that shift to BIM. Hear from practitioners about their process, their success, what they would do different.

Come and join the discussion:

• What was the biggest challenge about implementing Revit?
• What has been the biggest reward in the move to Building Information Management (BIM)?
• What is the one thing you would do over in implementing BIM?
• What is your advice to firms starting out?

The format of this user group will be a panel discussion (2-3 firms) with a moderator.

Who Should Attend
Beginner and experienced Revit users and Architects in small to medium size firms.

About the Moderator
David Haynes – Ideate Director of Services - is a Registered Architect and a LEED accredited professional who previously had his own practice and was President of a commercial design-build construction company for 15 years. A graduate of University of Arizona, he has worked as an Architect, contractor, developer, educator and as a national construction manager for a national retailer. David currently develops and implements targeted AEC business solutions – including Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, AutoCAD Architecture, and Navisworks – for clients across the United States involved in the design and building process.
