Revit 2017: Reinforcement Connectors

Hi folks, IX here, one of the senior application specialists at Ideate, Inc. I'm back with more talk on reinforcement in Revit 2017.

Another one of my top five features in Revit 2017 is the ability to add 3D reinforcement connector modeling elements to my project. This new feature will improve the level of detail for reinforcement modeling and documentation.

The Reinforcement Connectors are family-based and fully customizable, enabling each team member the ability to use them according to his/her needs, whether it be in schematic design for the structural engineers or shop drawings for the detailers. Rebar Connectors interact with the rebar that they connect to and adapt to changes with the rebar. Additionally, you can add the connectors to groups, assemblies, and partitions with unique coupler numbering. Like other Revit elements will exported to various CAD formats.
To see this new feature in action, check out this short video, Revit Structure 2017: Reinforcement Connectors.

Cheers,
IX

Revit 2016 Place Rooms and Open Sheet Views

After a long hiatus to Afghanistan, I have once again returned to the office to find a few changes… the Portland @Ideateinc office moved to a new a location, @IdeateSoftware released a new product called “Sticky”, and of course, @Autodesk released a new version of #Revit. So where does one begin??? Let’s start by looking at two new features within Revit 2016 that have caught my eye…

The first improvement that I liked is the ability of placing rooms within enclosed spaces of your model with a single click. In previous releases, the placement of rooms within a model was a long and arduous process of picking enclosed spaces in order to add a room element. Now with Revit 2016, selecting the Room tool reveals a new Tool called “Place Rooms Automatically”. Selecting this tool will automatically place rooms in any valid enclosed space greater than ¼ square foot, on the current level selected in the Options bar. This dramatically reduces the laborious process of picking enclosed spaces individually.

Another feature that appealed to me is the ability to locate and open a Sheet view that a view has been placed on. This includes any 3D, Section, Callout, Plan, Elevation, Drafting or Detail view. In earlier releases, I would need to look through several Sheet views to find the sheet a particular view had been placed in. With Revit 2016, right-clicking over a view name in the Project Browser reveals a new option in the context sensitive menu called “Open Sheet”. Revit will immediately locate and open the sheet. Talk about efficiency! No more scrolling through several sheet views.

If you would like to check these new features out or see what else is new in Revit 2016, take a look at my, and my colleagues blogs on the Ideate, Inc. YouTube page.

Autodesk Revit 2016 Selection Box

A new feature in Revit 2016 give the user the ability to create 3D isometric views from selected model elements.

In order to accomplish this task in previous versions of Revit user would have to create a 3D view and check on the views Section Box option from the Properties Palette then adjust the section box to the desired element(s) location.  Or users could use an existing view or create a view of the element(s) area and use the Orient to View option from the ViewCube right-click menu.

To create 3D isometric view use the Selection Box tool users simply select the element(s) they would like to isolate in a 3D isometric view and then select the Selection Box tool from the View panel on the Ribbon.  Revit will open the Default 3D View with a section box around the element(s) from your selection set.  To save the view for future use the user merely needs to right-click on the ViewCube and select the Save View option from the menu and enter an appropriate view name.

This new feature enables the use to quickly isolate selected elements in an unobstructed 3D view and to efficiently document a model. Helping project teams to better communicate within their project with smarter modeling and documentation views.
