Revit 2017: Reduce Duplicate Mark Warnings

Prior to Revit 2017, the Mark Value was automatically assigned to the MEP model elements.

In order to minimize the number of duplicate Mark Value warnings generated and maintained when multiple users are working on the Central File, Mark Values are no longer automatically assigned to the MEP categories listed below in Revit 2017:

• Cable Tray Fittings
• Conduits
• Conduit Fittings
• Ducts
• Duct Fittings
• Duct Placeholders
• Duct Insulations
• Duct Linings
• Flex Ducts
• Flex Pipes
• Pipes
• Pipe Fittings
• Pipe Placeholders
• Pipe Insulations
• Wires

Bottom Line: Improve performance by minimizing the number of duplicate Mark warnings.

Revit 2017: Electrical Apparent Load Calculation Options

One of the new MEP design enhancements in Revit 2017 is the Electrical Apparent Load Calculation options to help better communicate the engineering data.

With the option to choose the default method, which is sum the true load and reactive load, or sum the apparent load which is a more simplified approach, you now have more control over the method you prefer to use to calculate the electrical loads with Apparent Load Calculation Options.

Why She Runs

Ideate, Inc. MEP Application Specialist, Vasudha Dixit has accomplished an amazing feat.

Vasudha spent the last three months training to participate in the San Francisco Half Marathon on July 31st, which we are proud to say she successfully completed. But she didn’t just run for running’s sake. She ran for a very important cause: Asha for Education, a non-profit dedicated to educating underprivileged children in India.


Asha for Education is a fully volunteer-run organization working with NGOs in India to create synergies towards common goals, and it is dedicated to creating self-sustaining projects that can keep on-going even beyond their involvement.

Some of the projects the San Francisco Chapter of Asha supported are:

Pneuma Trust

Pneuma Trust runs a shelter called Home for Children in Madurai, Tamil Nadu for children who are orphans and semi-orphans of HIV/AIDS infected parents. The home provides food, clothing, and shelter free of cost for 35 children, and sends the children to government run schools to continue regular education.

Society for Women in Rural Development (SWIRD)

SWIRD currently works in 10 pre-primary schools, helping to educate underprivileged children. Improvements including free uniforms, medical help, elimination of fees, and proper structures for classrooms. All of the children who have passed in the last year are studying in local, government-run primary schools, and many of the students from previous years have gone on to high school.

Etasha Society

The organization is located in South East Delhi and focuses on providing schools for low income communities and counseling for students. Etasha counselors work with students who are having difficulty with family relationships and/or suffering from depression. They also help students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Their goal is to reduce drop-out rates and build student's self-confidence.

Vasudha says of the experience, “The Asha team was made up of a great group of dedicated people, and despite the physical aches & pains from running, I had a blast!”

Needless to say, Vasudha has inspired the employees at Ideate, Inc. We couldn’t be prouder.

Dynamo and Revit 2017

Dynamo is a visual programming platform that gives you the ability to visually script behavior, define custom pieces of logic and script using various textual programming languages. It is now fully integrated with Revit 2017 and does not require an additional download. No longer just an add-in to Revit, it can now be found in the Manage tab, Visual Programming panel. 

If you have already installed Revit 2017, you will not be able to immediately see Dynamo in the Manage tab. First, you will have to rerun the Dynamo installer and make sure to check Revit 2017 to add Dynamo to this new install.

Once the installation is complete, launch Revit 2017 and Dynamo should be available to you in the Manage tab, Visual Programming panel.

Ideate Explorer for MEP Engineers

MEP engineering building information models present their own unique challenges to project navigation and auditing within the Revit environment. Ideate Explorer is here to help with both daily production tasks and project auditing tasks that are unique to MEP engineers. 

For example, MEP engineers make extensive use of the Revit filter tool to control visibility, but with Ideate Explorer those same filters can be leveraged to dramatically enhance element selection within any view. In the image below the Mechanical Supply Filter is being used in conjunction with the Level-based sort, making it easy to quickly view and select only the ducts and fittings that relate to the supply. 

Additionally, MEP Engineers can use the Ideate Query tool within Ideate Explorer to Review the Elevation Values to discover quickly if any of the elements have been assigned to the wrong elevation or offset or to sort the project data quickly by the Level or Phase settings.
